British student accommodation giant GSA Group has made its first Australian acquisition, a private operator with a pipeline of projects, as it returns to the local market with big ambitions.
In a $21 million deal, GSA is buying out Campus Estates, which has a sizeable site in inner-city Carlton, near the University of Melbourne.
GSA announced its return last week, aiming to bring 25,000 beds under its management in the next decade.
In January, Campus Estates lodged a development application for a 350-bed facility at a site on the corner of Pelham and Barry streets.
